Museum Le Grand Curtius is de opvolger van het Wapenmuseum, waar de collectie is ondergebracht.
Dit nieuwe museumcomplex voor kunst en geschiedenis in de streek van Luik bestaat uit vijf afdelingen : wapens, archeologie, sierkunsten, glaswerk, religieuze en Maaslandse kunst.

Het wapenmuseum bevindt zich in een opmerkelijk herenhuis in Lodewijk XVI-stijl. Het was de voormalige zetel van de prefectuur van het "departement Ourte" onder het Franse Regime. Beroemde gasten hebben hier ooit gelogeerd : Napoleon, Blucher, Willem II.

De ongeveer 11.000 stukken vormen een verzameling van
de verschillende wapensystemen vanaf hun oorsprong tot heden. De verscheidenheid
en de uitstekende staat van de verzameling wekken terecht de bewondering
van de vakman op. De afdeling vuurwapens is één van de rijkste
ter wereld.

THE GRAND CURTIUS
The “Grand Curtius ”is situated in the city center,in the historical core of Liège,close to other museums and heritage landmarks.
It will house a 100-seat auditorium, a cafeteria, a book-and
gift-shop and areas for temporary exhibits.
The name derives from the man who built the most conspicuous of the antique buildings now integrated into this new interpretation center :Jean Curtius,a prominent armament supplier to the Spanish armed forces adjoining historical buildings, the Grand Curtius will cover an area of 10,000 square meters,half of which will house permanent displays.
One of the major arms museums in the world.
