The Bowers Museum
The Bowers Museum holds in its collection more than 130,000 works of art. These works were donated from 1935 to the present and represent many regions and cultures of the world. The museum`s largest collections are in the areas of Native American art, Pre-Columbian art, Asian art, art of the Pacific, art of Africa and Orange County history.
Represented here are only brief descriptions of the largest sections of the museum's collection. Bowers will be working in the coming years to create an online catalogue of the collection to be linked to this website. If you have any questions about these objects or any other object in the Bowers' collections please contact the Registration/Collections Management Department at 714-567-3652 or collections@bowers.org.
The series of galleries illustrates the rich, colorful and diverse history of the people who settled the West and Orange County: Hall of Exploration, European explorers; Missions and Ranchos Gallery, prominent pioneers.

Tribal art represents the art of the world's indigenous people. In many of these indigenous cultures, there isn't a word for "art." Instead, there is an inherent aesthetic incorporated into the people's daily life. This can be seen in all aspects of their life from preparation of food, hunting and warfare, ceremony and religion, and in the way they enhance their appearance in body adornment.
California, The Golden Years highlights the museum's spectacular collection of plein air paintings.
