The Félicien Rops museum is located in a former hotel de maître (period house), at the heart of the old part of Namur. It is not far from the birthplace of the artist and from Saint-Loup Church, a baroque building, considered to be an important landmark in Namur's cultural heritage.
The museum has on display all aspects of the artist’s work (1833 - 1898), the important stages of his life (Namur, Brussels, Paris), the people he met and his artisitic creations.
A technical introduction to the diversity of his talents is also offered including: etching, drawing, painting.
.

Namur sometimes seems unsure of what to make of one of its best-known sons, the bizarre and erotic 19th-century painter and engraver Félicien Rops. His museum is tucked away on a narrow side street, near the artist's birthplace in the old quarter of town -- but inside, exposure is the name of the game. The perfection of Rops's soft-ground etchings and drypoint work is internationally recognized, and he was indisputably one of the most outstanding engravers of the late 19th century. Some important examples of his work on display are Pornokratès (1879), Mors Syphilitica (1866), and The Beach at Heist (1886).
