Het museum is een statig pand uit de 18e eeuw, dat de
naam draagt van zijn vroegere eigenaars. Men vindt er de sfeer van een
aristocratenwoning uit de Eeuw der Verlichting. De binnenhuisinrichting
sluit naadloos aan op de architectuur en de verzamelingen zetten de artistieke
werken van meubelmakers, goudsmeden, uurwerkmakers, glasblazers enz. van
het oude Namur in het zonnetje. Een Franse tuin voegt een groene noot toe
aan het harmonische geheel.

Het Hôtel de Groesbeeck de Croix, dat sinds 1935 een gemeentemuseum is, vormt één van de mooiste herenhuizen die in de XVIIIde eeuw in Namen werden gebouwd. Men vindt er de op meesterlijke wijze gereconstrueerde sfeer terug van een aristocratische woning uit de Eeuw der Verlichting. Met een opmerkelijke collectie decoratieve kunst uit het Naamse gebied : meubelstukken, glas en kristal, aardewerk, zilverwerk, schilderijen en beeldhouwkunst.

A local council
museum since 1935, the Groesbeeck de Croix building is one of the finest
mansions built in Namur in the 18th century. Magnificently restored, it
has the atmosphere of an aristocratic residence of the Age of Enlightenment.
The
musee is an 18th century master hall that takes the name of its old owners.
One senses the demure aristocratic atmosphere of the period of Enlightenment.
The interior decor is integrated into the architecture and the collections
together emphasize the arts, artists, and artisans who gave honour to Namur
in the past. A garden inspired by the Baroque period provides verdure and
harmony.

Le
musée présente de remarquables collections d'arts appliqués
aux objets utilitaires et d'arts décoratifs du siècle des
Lumières : mobilier, orfèvrerie, faïences, porcelaines,
verres, cristaux, peintures et sculptures. Elles peuvent être groupées
en deux ensembles: les productions namuroises et les oeuvres étrangères.
Le meuble namurois témoigne de l'évolution des styles du
XVIIème siècle jusqu'au début du XIXè siècle.
Artistes extérieurs à Namur: sculpteurs : Laurent Delvaux,Richardot,
Coysevox;peintres : Tiepolo, Pierre-Joseph Redouté, Vivien, Doncre,
Jeurat, Lemoine etc. Verrerie : Zoude et Vonêche.
